On Saturday May 2nd 2009 the University of Indianapolis conferred upon Richard E. Stierwalt an honorary degree, the Doctor of Humane Letters, for his outstanding work on behalf of the university and its alumni association as a trustee and chair of the finance committee, for accomplishments over his business career and his charitable endeavors. Dr. Beverly Pitts, President of the University of Indianapolis, presented the degree to Mr. Stierwalt at the commencement ceremony where Mr. Stierwalt received a standing ovation from the appreciative crowd which numbered many thousands. Dr. Pitts praised Rick for his business accomplishments and his giving back to "UIndy" and the community at large. Mr. Stierwalt celebrated the high honor with family and friends from all over the country and with the other honoree and trustees and faculty of the university at the Richard E. Stierwalt Alumni House on the grounds of the university.
